Frequently Asked Questions

Following are frequently asked questions.  Contact Kathleen by e-mail: o2paint@yahoo.com or telephone: 608-345-3401 should you have additional questions.

I have no art background.  My hands shake.  I can't draw.  No one can read my handwriting and I can't either.  I can't swim.  Can I take a painting class?

Absolutely!

You can paint!!!

Anyone with a positive attitude and a genuine desire to paint can be successful.  Many of Kathleen's  first-time students have been so pleased that they framed their work!  Also, they have taken additional classes to create special gifts for loved ones.

Some people tend to disqualify themselves because they feel that they don't have talent.  We are not born reciting the alphabet, reading, performing math calculations, writing, speaking, etc.

Kathleen believes that the desire to pursue an interest creates the talent!  Believe in yourself!  Positive attitude is everything!

How much do starting supplies cost?

Generally $100-125.  With proper care, the initial supplies such as brushes and easel can last for years.   I have brushes that I have used for over four years.  The key is proper care.

Quality products are best.  Area stores run weekly coupons offering 25%-50% off one item.  Contact Kathleen to obtain a supply list.

Friends and relatives who take classes together often share paints to help defray the cost.  One person might be responsible for three colors, another for oil or medium, etc.

What about using thinners in the classroom?

Thinners are not used in the classroom.

Bring lots of paper towels to the classroom for wiping the brushes.  Baby oil can be used for cleaning brushes as long as the oil is wiped off.  Bring a large-mouth (at least two inches in diameter.) plastic jar for cleaning.

Some students prefer a final cleaning with thinner.  They take their brushes home tightly wrapped in plastic and immediately clean them outside.

Where are classes held?

Classes are currently offered at the Monona Hobby Lobby in South Towne Mall just off the Madison Beltline Highway.

Would you consider teaching classes at our location?

Yes.  Mileage/trip charges are additional costs to the class fee.  Contact Kathleen to discuss details.

Are children's classes available?

Parent-child classes are offered upon request.  Classes are especially designed for children's motor skills and attention span.  A child must be at least 10 years old to participate and be under the supervision of a parent at all times.  Parent and child each create their own individual painting.

Students must be at least 17 years old to paint in an adult class.Click to enter a detailed answer to the question above. Are private lessons available?Question

Yes, private instruction is available upon request.  Standard rate is $100.00 minimum per lesson.  The average lesson lasts three to four hours, depending upon student skill level, subject detail, and size of canvas.  The fee is $25.00/hour or fraction of hour after four hours.  .
